Nora is the basic resource of pox. What I expected was another trading card game trying to compete with Hearthstone and Hex. There’s a lot of content in this game to play for free. The depth shown in the menus and lore frustratingly boils down to some rather simple resource management, but it is enjoyable to figure out the flow of the battlefield and overcome your enemy. By giving you a solid base game that's worth spending a little money on, you find yourself either dropping a few bucks and joining the high ranks, or doing a lot of grinding. Once you do finish the tutorial, though, you find yourself with a deep strategy unlocked. Once you buy a pack it’s opened straight away and if you back out of that window, all the packs you bought are opened automatically and unceremoniously dumped in your collection. Even if you are starting to get the hang of it, you have to keep those training wheels on until you get done with the tutorial, which glitched out on me a couple times forcing me to reset (though these are probably simple errors that can be patched early). It’s nothing revolutionary but sure to scratch the strategy RPG itch for fans of the genre. Obviously, you won't do as good as other online players who are spending money, but if you aren't worried about being the best on the leaderboards, you won't have much to worry about and can still have fun. If you are going to play ranked though you are going to have to shell out real money sooner or later. While the graphics are a little dated (showing the older game and freemium status of the title), they do a good job with the presentation. Both players have a deck of 30 runes, which are essentially like collectible cards in all but name. There is no easy way to see your collection either with the deck builder being the only time you can navigate through your runes. Usually a map will have two Nora fonts and if one player captures both it usually becomes just a matter of time before they overwhelm the other player. You can tell the port from the very beginning, as ever since Q*Bert it's been hard to translate an isometric battlefield into something that can be controlled on a squared directional pad or loosely swinging analog stick. It’s something minor though, and didn’t get in the way too much of my enjoyment of the game play.
